Are We Truly Ready for Inflight Cell Phones?
Qualcomm and Boeing have been testing inflight cell phone usage on 737's, however the FAA has not indicated that they will be lifting their ban usage any time soon.
The possibility of cell phone usage on airplane does give us pause to consider the question that our parents asked us years ago... just because you CAN, does that mean you SHOULD? While it might be handy for the office to be able to reach you for an urgent client request during a 3 hour flight, does anyone really want to be trapped next to a seat mate having an animated heart to heart with their long lost aunt for that same 3 hours?
But maybe technology will come to the rescue once again in the guise of in-flight broadband Internet connectivity, which would allow rapid communications via E-mail and instant messaging that would let you stay connected without the need for a chatty phone conversation.
