Interview: ProfitLine's European General Manager Discusses Global Mobility Trends

Monday, March 15, 2010
Question: Are you getting settled into your new offices in Germany?
Answer: We are not completely settled yet, but our Cisco Softphones and printer work and most times we find free parking spots in front of the office building called Delta House. Available free of charge car parking is something we dream of in Germany and Europe. The German office is in Wiesbaden which is the capitol of the state of Hesse, close to Frankfurt/Main and the International Rhein-Main Airport. Logistics were one reason why we chose this location. We have only a 15 minute drive to the BT office in Frankfurt where we meet regularly with BT Mobility Sales. As soon as we get our ProfitLine posters on the walls it will feel like home!

Question: What trends are you starting to see as you meet with multinational corporations?
Answer: We recognize that many multinational corporations (MNC's) are in the process of determining a global Mobility strategy. This comprises TEM, but also global MNO/carrier contract management, access technologies, security and data protection. The biggest challenge for MNC‘s related to TEM is having centralized control over Mobility spend while providing enough flexibility to adjust business processes to the local needs and capabilities of a country organization. These corporations are accommodating ordering and fulfillment processes which are typically country specific, in addition to local reporting requirements and data protection regulations.

Question: What is challenging these multinational corporations the most?
Answer: We are seeing other vendors struggling with multinational implementations from the start, often as a result of the difficulty in making all invoice and CDR data available for Processing. If the understanding of the critical roles and timing required by each party is not clearly established, what seemed easy when presented during sales becomes a nightmare in operations. This happens most often when TEM is deployed in single countries with an internal group supported by a purchased software or SAAS TEM model. Based on that experience many multinational companies are now looking for a consistent Managed Service offering across all of their countries. We are very excited by the opportunity.

Question: What intrigued you most when you were at Answer: Mobile World in Barcelona last month?
The major theme at Mobile World in Barcelona was mobile applications. Most interesting will be how the Mobile Broadband capabilities will be used to deliver value to consumers and Enterprises. I'm also interested to see the answers to several crucial questions including: Who will be the winners in this new market which is expected to be the next major wave after the Internet to change the world? Will it be Google, Microsoft, Apple or the MNO? What is the role of the equipment manufacturers and how shall users pay, if they pay at all, for the usage of apps? From a user point of view the announcement of the main MNOs in Europe to unite in order to provide one apps store with applications running on all major mobile operating system platforms is a fantastic goal. Let's see if they can make it happen!
