ProfitLine Poll indicates 81 percent of large enterprise experienced disruption to operations from Blackberry outage

Thursday, April 19, 2007 — ProfitLine, the leading provider of outsourced telecom expense management (TEM) solutions, hosted a "Managing the Mobile Enterprise" Webinar on the heels of a system wide Blackberry outage. This turn of events provided a unique polling opportunity to gauge the impact of the Blackberry outage on close to 100 large enterprise IT and telecom professionals who came to learn best practice approaches for "Managing the Mobile Enterprise" from leading industry expert, Randy De Lorenzo, VP of Mobility Strategy for ProfitLine.

A Webinar poll opening the event revealed that 81 percent of responding large enterprise IT and telecom professionals reported disruption to operations from the Blackberry outage. 44.5 percent reported "moderate or substantial" impact to enterprise productivity. Only 18.2 percent reported no impact from the outage. Ironically, one Webinar registrant was unable to attend the web event due to the Blackberry outage. The polling results yielded great interest and publication by national media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, PC World, Computer World and others.

"These numbers show the critical role that wireless devices play in corporate America," said Randall De Lorenzo, ProfitLine's VP, Mobility Strategies. "Wireless communication has gone from a travel convenience to a mission critical communications tool."

Another poll during the same web session revealed that 78% of enterprises had no formal acceptable use policy signed by users; potentially leaving the large enterprise vulnerable to vicarious liability.
